Look beyond the traditional wedding dress style if you don't have a conventional bent -- or figure
Two-piece wedding gowns are a stylish alternative to
traditional one-piece bridal wear. Two-piece gowns give the bride the
ability to mix and match styles, colors and sizes. They can also be more
flattering to large-size brides or pregnant brides. As the popularity
of two-piece gowns grows, bridal retailers are offering more choices,
making it easier for you to find the perfect two-piece wedding gown for
your big day.
Different Sizes
If you have a big bust with small hips or vice versa, you know the
pain of trying to find dresses that fit well and flatter. Two-piece
bridal gowns solve this problem by letting you select different sizes
for the top and bottom. You can also use design elements of the two
pieces to balance your figure. Pair a fuller skirt with a sleek top to
balance a large-breasted figure. Strapless or V-neck styles worn with
the proper support garments can really flatter a well-endowed woman. Or
pair a padded bustier with a sleek skirt to make the most of a
pear-shaped figure.
Mix and match
Make a fashion statement by combining different designs. Pair a lacy
top with a sleek satin skirt, or a satin halter with a subtle pattern in
the skirt. Go bold with different colors for the top and bottom such
as white for the top and a pale lavender or silver for the bottom. Make a
striking entrance at a black and white wedding with a white top and
black skirt.
Jackets
Another stylish look, particularly for a fall or winter wedding, is
to pair a jacket with your dress. Look for wedding jackets made to go
with the gown in the same or complementary material. You can find
jackets trimmed with crystals, pearls and even fur or marabou, a
luxurious touch for a winter wedding. A short, fitted jacket flatters
most figures and is a great way to cover your arms if you're insecure
about their appearance. You can also wear the jacket for your ceremony
and remove it for dancing at the reception.
Pregnancy gowns
The pregnant bride may find she's more comfortable in a two-piece
gown. The top can be fitted or flowing, while the skirt can be made with
an elastic panel to allow for comfort and the baby's expansion between
the first fitting and the wedding day.
